$MF - Bankruptcy Protection filed - Trading Halted
MF Global Holdings filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in New York on Monday morning, after an effort to sell itself to Interactive Brokers Group failed.
MF Global had a tentative deal to sell assets to Interactive Brokers as of late Sunday, but the agreement fell apart as talks continued overnight, said people familiar with the matter. Discussions ended around 5 a.m. ET, one of these people said.
MF Global had been considering filing just its holding company for bankruptcy protection and then executing the sale. That plan is now off the table, one of the people said.

$MF - NEWS UPDATE
$MF may continue lower for a few more days - unless a buyer is reported. Technical analysis is out the window in situations like this so proceed with caution. I am going to watch for an intraday volume increase in anticipation on good news. The potential for this stock is great.. but there are some considerable risks as well. - Stock Cowboy
Jon Corzine’s MF Global Holdings Ltd. was working through the weekend to consider options for the sale of the futures broker, according to a person with direct knowledge of the situation.
The firm’s board is meeting today in New York after convening yesterday, said the person, who asked not to be identified because the talks are private. MF Global was in discussions with five potential buyers for all or parts of the company, including banks, private-equity firms and brokers, a person with knowledge of the matter said on Oct. 28.
